History & naming

History & naming

Monks once ran the ninth of twelve monastery farms in the Brüggerschhof district. Later, numerous residential buildings were constructed in this area, which shared a designated well. Shortly before the 20th century, this well was demolished by the municipality to make way for a new road. However, all the surrounding plots continued to have well rights, which were only officially abolished in 2024. The name of the Brüggersch Brunnen construction company is derived from this historical event.

The existing wooden house Haus Mönchalp served as the starting point for the naming of the two new buildings. Inspired by the surrounding landscape, they bear the names of the Klosters valleys Vernela and Verstancla. These two valleys run parallel and are connected at their far end by the Verstanclahorn, the highest mountain in the Prättigau. The choice of names therefore establishes a clear connection to the alpine environment and underlines the buildings' connection to their location.

Vernela House

The Vernela house is located directly on the main road, but thanks to the 30 km/h speed limit, traffic noise is barely noticeable. The new building is directly adjacent to the neighboring Mönchalp house, a traditional wooden building. The shared staircase connects the two buildings and creates a harmonious unity between old building fabric and modern architecture.

Each apartment has two balconies facing north and west. The façade is designed in a warm, dark sand tone that complements the wooden elements of the balconies. Despite the central and compact location, both balconies offer generous air space and unobstructed views of the surrounding mountain landscape.

The building is directly connected to the shared underground parking garage in the basement.

At Haus Verstancla, the subtle brown-gray color tone adds targeted accents and subtly highlights the building. Depending on the incidence of light, the color effect changes its nuances and gives the façade a lively depth. At the same time, the tone harmonizes perfectly with the darker color concept of Haus Vernela and creates a harmonious transition to the colorful surrounding properties.

Nine spacious apartments with high-quality interior finishes are being built in the building. The northwest-facing apartments each have two balconies.

The attic apartment impresses with its unique floor plan. The charming sloping ceilings give the rooms a warm, cozy atmosphere and create a unique living environment.

Verstancla House

location

The Vernela & Verstancla development is located at the southern entrance to the village in the Brüggerschhof district. This is a very quiet area and, thanks to various attractive new developments, is one of the more modern residential districts.

The Gotschna mountain railway, the train station, and the cross-country ski trail are about a 10-minute walk away. The family mountain Madrisa is also easily accessible by local bus. Shopping facilities such as grocery stores, a pharmacy, a post office, doctors' offices, and various sports shops are also within a 10-minute walk.

Davos can be easily reached by car or train in 20 to 30 minutes. Thanks to the Vereina Tunnel, the Engadin is extremely well connected and easily accessible by both train and car.

The kindergarten and school are also just a few minutes away.
